About The Position

The Courtesy Clerk maintains acceptable store conditions according to Company standards and provides customer service by engaging with customers, bagging and transporting groceries, locating products, and conducting price verifications. The role performs a range of customer-service and store-maintenance duties while helping maintain a safe and sanitary shopping environment. Work is generally performed in a retail store and typically involves on-the-job training.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must be at least 21 years of age to drive for Company business, in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
Ability to remain courteous with customers at all times.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and partners in written and verbal form.
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Attendance at work is required.
Continuously use close vision, distance vision, depth perception, or the ability to focus; stand or walk; and talk and hear.
Frequently use hands for reaching, touching, or handling; push, pull, maneuver, or lift objects up to 40 pounds; and bend, kneel, or squat.
Occasionally push, pull, maneuver, or lift objects up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

Bag groceries properly by grouping like items, limiting bag weight, preventing food cross-contamination, and ensuring customers receive all purchased items.
Collect shopping carts and store them in the cart corral.
Keep the parking lot free of trash and debris and communicate incidents, actions, or concerns on store premises to management.
Keep front-end racks, drink coolers, and cleaning supply stations stocked, clean, and presentable.
Promote product sales through active customer engagement.
Handle objects carefully to avoid damage to products or property.
Clean the breakroom and restroom and face products according to Company guidelines.
Greet customers, answer questions, and bag and transport groceries to customers’ vehicles while maintaining a friendly, customer-service-oriented attitude.
Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary working and shopping environment by following Company safety procedures and policies.
Watch for potential hazards, remedy them or place appropriate warning signs or devices as soon as reasonably possible, and report hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.
