About The Position

The Department of Jewish Studies is inviting applications to teach a course in fall 2026. This course, JWST 211 – Jewish Studies 1: Biblical Period, will cover the history, literature, and beliefs of Judaism's formative period. Both Biblical and non-Biblical materials will be studied, with the Bible examined in the context of cognate literatures of the Ancient Near East. Non-Biblical documents will be analyzed for their bearing on the Jewish tradition. The course is scheduled to run from August 31 to December 4, 2026, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:35 am to 12:55 pm in the Leacock building, room 15. This course will be taught by one instructor in-person.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biblical Studies/ History of Interpretation of the Tana"ch
  • Experience in teaching the Hebrew Bible at a high academic level
  • Ability to teach basic survey courses as well as focused courses on a variety of books of the Bible
  • Authorized to work in Canada
  • Willing to work in the province of Quebec
  • English communication skills, both verbally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Teach JWST 211 – Jewish Studies 1: Biblical Period
  • Conduct classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:35 am to 12:55 pm
  • Utilize both Biblical and non-Biblical materials in teaching
  • Analyze the Bible in the context of cognate literatures of the Ancient Near East
  • Analyze non-Biblical documents for their bearing on the Jewish tradition
