About The Position

The Department of Jewish Studies is inviting applications to teach a course in fall 2026. This course, JWST 202 - Introduction to Jewish Music, will be taught by one instructor in-person. It is a survey of Jewish music from the Bible to the present, with special attention given to the Jewish and non-Jewish contexts in which the music developed. The course is scheduled to run from August 31 to December 4, 2026, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 5:25 PM in Education 216.

Requirements

  • Advanced academic degree, preferably PhD in music.
  • Extensive experience in teaching Jewish music at the academic level.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Must be willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based/located.
  • English communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Teach JWST 202 - Introduction to Jewish Music course.
  • Conduct a survey of Jewish music from the Bible to the present.
  • Provide special attention to the Jewish and non-Jewish contexts in which the music developed.
