The Department of Jewish Studies is inviting applications to teach JWST 281 – Introductory Yiddish 1 in Fall 2026. This course is an introduction to Yiddish, the millennium-old language of Ashkenazic Jews, covering basic grammar and vocabulary with practice in speaking, reading, and writing. Course materials draw on Yiddish literature, humor, songs, and films, allowing students to combine language acquisition with an exploration of Yiddish culture across different regions and time periods. The course will be taught in-person by one instructor.
