About The Position

The Department of History and Classical Studies is inviting applications to teach a course in fall 2026. HIST 211 American History to 1865 is an introduction to the history of colonial North America and the United States up to the Civil War, in their Atlantic context. The course will be taught in-person by one instructor. McGill University is an English-language university where most teaching and research activities are conducted in the English language, thereby requiring English communication both verbally and in writing. Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.
  • PHD or ABD in US history required
  • Expertise in colonial or pre-Civil War era preferred
  • Teaching experience in related coursework at university level preferred
  • Experience teaching large survey course preferred
