About The Position

The Correctional Lieutenant II reports to a Correctional Captain II and plans, supervises, and coordinates activities at a medium-custody male correctional facility. This position is distinguished from Correctional Lieutenant I by larger staffing and offender populations and greater operational complexity, which may include restrictive housing. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week; the selected candidate may work any shift and must work weekends and holidays to maintain 24/7 staff coverage. The role supervises Correctional Sergeant II employees, may serve as Officer in Charge when the Correctional Captain II is absent, and coordinates personnel, facility operations, security, discipline, and offender welfare. It includes inspecting facility areas and posts, reviewing investigations, participating in employee discipline and offender classification, responding as incident commander with authority to decide on use of impact munition, and preparing records and reports. The position is an internal posting open to current North Carolina Department of Adult Correction employees, eligible North Carolina state government reduction-in-force candidates, and current temporary employees. Applicants must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements and be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission. The agency may require a criminal background check, drug screening, medical and psychological evaluations, and a valid driver’s license.
