About The Position

This role is for a Compliance Advisor (Lawyer) within the compliance team. The position aims to support partners, lawyers, and management in identifying, analyzing, and managing compliance, professional ethics, and conflict of interest issues. The individual will work closely with the compliance analyst team and various practice teams within the firm.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 to 8 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in a compliance/ethics/governance role.
  • Solid understanding of ethical rules, conflict of interest issues, and professional obligations applicable to law firms.
  • Excellent analytical, judgment, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive files with rigor and discretion.
  • Collaborative, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Bilingualism (French-English) required, both spoken and written.

  • Experience or strong interest in internal advisory roles, risk management, or compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development, updating, and application of the firm's compliance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical rules, applicable professional standards, and best practices in the legal industry.
  • Monitor regulatory and ethical developments and provide recommendations tailored to the firm's context.
  • Support the analysis of conflicts of interest, including complex or sensitive mandates.
  • Advise professionals on the interpretation of conflict reports and appropriate mitigation measures (e.g., consents, ethical walls).
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of processes and tools related to conflicts of interest, in collaboration with the analyst team.
  • Contribute to the training and awareness of firm members on compliance, ethics, and conflicts of interest.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects related to governance, risk management, and the evolution of internal practices.
  • Participate in the optimization of internal processes, particularly concerning file opening, mandate transfers, and departures or arrivals of lawyers.
  • Collaborate on the development of reports, indicators, and compliance documentation for management.
