About The Position

The Coffee Shop Department Manager leads Hy-Vee’s coffee shop department, setting standards for quality, customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team performance, and profitability. The manager creates a welcoming customer experience, develops and supervises employees, coordinates department operations with store leadership, and helps ensure efficient service and compliance with company policies. The role oversees ordering, replenishment, pricing, invoicing, bookkeeping, inventory, pre-orders, sales analysis, ad projections, promotions, and displays. It also involves maintaining product freshness and proper storage and temperatures, troubleshooting equipment, coordinating maintenance, and helping elsewhere in the store or on special projects as needed. The position is hands-on and fast-paced, with exposure to temperature extremes, dampness, store equipment, electrical equipment, cleaning products, or solvents. The anticipated starting wage is $16.50 to $20.60 per hour, depending on experience. Employment is contingent on successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to deliver outstanding customer service and inspire the team to do the same.
Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced food service environment.
Ability to solve practical problems and make sound decisions with a variety of variables.
Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Clear written and verbal communication with customers, employees, and vendors.
Ability to handle confidential information, including employee compensation, sales data, and inventory reports, with discretion.
Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance.
Ability to continuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
Ability to work in cooler or freezer environments for extended periods.
Ability to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required.

Nice To Haves

On-the-job training and sanitation courses are preferred.
One or more years of related work experience is preferred.
Where applicable, ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment; required operator certification must be completed before independent use.
Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind product.
Where applicable and in accordance with applicable age and legal requirements, ability to operate a cardboard baler or compactor.
Where applicable, ability to perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofing.

Responsibilities

Set and uphold department standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team relations, and profitability.
Encourage the team to greet and engage customers, and lead by example in creating a friendly atmosphere.
Help customers find products, reach items, carry heavy purchases, and otherwise improve their visit.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate department employees; handle performance and disciplinary matters as needed.
Coordinate scheduling, daily work plans, and department goals with store leadership.
Oversee ordering, replenishment, pricing, invoicing, and department bookkeeping.
Analyze weekly and monthly sales trends, prepare ad projections, and plan promotions and displays.
Ensure correct product temperatures, storage procedures, and freshness standards to minimize shrink.
Understand and troubleshoot department equipment and coordinate maintenance as needed.
Maintain speed of service by ensuring staffing requirements are met.
Conduct department inventory and manage product pre-orders.
Maintain compliance with the dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
