Coffee Shop Barista
About The Position
As a Barista at Hy-Vee, you’ll serve as a friendly point of contact for customers while preparing beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and clean, and helping customers find what they need. The role suits someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a fast-paced environment, and taking pride in doing work well. Prior experience is not required; training and support are provided. The position is hourly and is performed in a store coffee shop environment. It involves customer service, order taking, product preparation and replenishment, register operations where applicable, and maintaining department cleanliness and standards. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Ability to communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep up with a busy coffee shop environment.
- Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, point-of-sale transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Nice To Haves
- Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly, learn their names, and provide helpful service to make each visit positive.
- Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list to meet daily needs.
- Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
- Check in products, put products away, and review invoices as needed.
- Run the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
