About The Position

As a Barista at Hy-Vee, you’ll serve as a friendly, helpful presence for customers while preparing beverages, maintaining coffee shop stock and cleanliness, and ensuring customers receive what they need. The role suits someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a fast-paced environment, and taking pride in doing quality work. No prior experience is required; training and support are provided.

The position is performed in a store coffee shop environment, where employees manage multiple priorities and deadlines during their shifts. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

• Follow written and verbal instructions.
• Use basic math skills, including simple addition and subtraction, counting, and recording.
• Communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
• Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy coffee shop environment.
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice To Haves

• Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, learn their names, and provide outstanding service.
• Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
• Prepare and replenish coffee shop products throughout the shift.
• Monitor product freshness and appearance and follow or develop a production list for daily needs.
• Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
• Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
• Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
• Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
• Work with teammates to provide customers with a smooth, positive experience.
• Follow Hy-Vee dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
