About The Position
The Coffee Shop Barista serves customers in a Hy-Vee store coffee shop by crafting beverages, keeping products stocked and the shop clean, and ensuring customers receive helpful, friendly service. The role suits someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a fast-paced environment, and contributing to a team. Training and support are provided; prior experience is not required. The position works under direction and support from the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director, and Coffee Shop Department Manager. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen. The anticipated hourly starting wage is $16.50 to $20.60, depending on experience.
Requirements
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Use basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
- Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy coffee shop environment.
- Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
- Frequently stand and walk throughout the shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
- Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Complete a pre-employment drug screen successfully as a condition of employment.

- Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding service, including learning customers’ names and making visits positive.
- Take orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list to anticipate daily needs.
- Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
- Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
