About The Position

As a Barista at Hy-Vee, you will provide friendly customer service while preparing beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and clean, and ensuring customers receive the products they want. The role suits someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a fast-paced environment, and taking pride in doing quality work. No prior experience is required; training and support are provided. The position is performed in a store coffee shop, where employees manage multiple priorities and deadlines during their shifts. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates.
Ability to stay organized and keep up with a busy coffee shop environment.
Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.

Nice To Haves

Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly, learn their names, and provide helpful service to make each visit positive.
Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
Monitor product freshness and appearance and follow or develop a production list to meet daily needs.
Handle food safely and maintain a clean, neat work area that meets department standards.
Receive products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
