About The Position

Manhattan Psychology Group is accepting applications for its 2027–2028 Testing/Assessment Track, an advanced doctoral externship for trainees seeking intensive experience in comprehensive psychological assessment. The program offers supervised exposure to psychological, neuropsychological, psychoeducational, developmental, and autism evaluations in a collaborative multidisciplinary practice. Trainees build competencies in diagnostic interviewing, test administration and scoring, interpretation, integrated report writing, feedback, educational consultation, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Most direct clinical experience focuses on comprehensive evaluations. Trainees may also maintain a limited psychotherapy caseload, generally no more than 20% of their direct clinical time, to develop diagnostic interviewing skills and connect assessment findings with treatment planning. Trainees receive supervision and mentorship while serving people with concerns including anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, disruptive behavior disorders, learning differences, and other developmental, behavioral, and emotional concerns. The track is suited to trainees interested in pediatric psychology, school psychology, neuropsychology, psychological assessment, or integrated behavioral health. The placement is part-time, unpaid, and in person at MPG's Upper West Side office and/or Long Island City location. The standard schedule is at least 16 clinical hours per week across two in-person clinical days; with program approval, trainees may add a third day and work up to 24 hours per week. The schedule combines approximately eight hours of direct clinical services with approximately eight hours of indirect clinical and professional learning activities. Typical schedules use two weekdays or one weekday and one weekend day, generally around 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though times may vary. Start dates are May 10, June 7, July 6, or August 2, 2027, with the placement ending 12 months after the selected start date. All trainees, including those starting later, must attend orientation May 11–13, 2027. Training includes supervised experience at each stage of evaluation, such as referral review, diagnostic interviewing, test selection and administration, behavioral observation, scoring, interpretation, report writing, feedback with families, school observations, teacher interviews and rating scales, school consultation, and individualized recommendations for home, school, and community settings. Trainees participate in case consultation and learn how findings inform diagnosis, treatment planning, educational programming, and recommendations across settings. Supplemental activities may include individual psychotherapy, parent consultation and training, group therapy or co-facilitation, and intake evaluations. Trainees may also observe or collaborate with clinicians across services including ABA, PCIT, PMT, executive functioning coaching, behavioral tutoring, social skills groups, comprehensive evaluations, and school-based consultation and support. Professional learning activities include weekly individual supervision with a licensed psychologist or neuropsychologist, bi-weekly group supervision, departmental didactics, observation of evaluations and other clinical appointments, treatment planning and report review, peer consultation, case conferences, journal discussions, case presentations, special projects, departmental meetings, and opportunities to support community workshops, parent education programs, and professional presentations. The practice describes its work as collaborative, evidence-based, and committed to compassionate wrap-around care, professional growth, and a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. The agency is accessible by public transportation but is not wheelchair accessible. Off-site training opportunities, such as home visits, may be assigned according to trainee goals and program requirements. The placement is at-will and is not an employment contract.
