About The Position

Manhattan Psychology Group is accepting applications for its 2027–2028 Mental Health Counseling Track, an unpaid, part-time, in-person clinical internship/externship for graduate trainees. The program provides intensive, supervised experience delivering evidence-based psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and adjustment concerns. Trainees work alongside licensed psychologists, social workers, and other behavioral health professionals and receive mentorship in psychotherapy, case conceptualization, treatment planning, parent consultation, group intervention, multidisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based clinical practice. Most direct clinical work involves psychotherapy and related behavioral health services. Trainees may also gain introductory exposure to psychological assessment through observation, consultation, and participation in intake and diagnostic discussions when appropriate. The placement is based at MPG’s Upper West Side office and/or Long Island City office. The standard schedule is 16 clinical hours per week across two in-person clinical days, with the possibility of up to 24 hours across three days with program approval. The schedule combines approximately eight hours of direct clinical service with approximately eight hours of indirect clinical and professional learning activities. Possible schedules include after-school/evening blocks and, in some cases, a weekend block. Start dates are May 10, June 7, July 6, or August 2, 2027; the placement ends 12 months after the selected start date. All trainees, including those starting later in the summer, must attend orientation May 11–13, 2027. Clinical experiences may include individual psychotherapy, parent consultation and training, family and group therapy, intake evaluations, school consultation, crisis assessment and safety planning when appropriate, and treatment planning and progress monitoring. Trainees participate in individual and group supervision, didactics, session and assessment observations, case consultation, treatment planning meetings, peer consultation, case conferences, journal discussions, case presentations, and professional development activities. With training-goal and program approval, trainees may also participate in assessment-related activities and off-site training opportunities such as home visits. Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program in a relevant psychology or behavioral health discipline. Doctoral- and master’s-level trainees are encouraged to apply. The application and placement process includes an online application, CV, two recommendation letters, a cover letter, a readiness/eligibility letter signed by the DCT if applicable, a phone screen, virtual and in-person interviews, an offer, onboarding, and orientation. Manhattan Psychology Group describes itself as a multidisciplinary practice providing services across clinic, home, school, and telehealth settings, and states its commitment to collaboration, professional growth, evidence-based practice, and an inclusive workplace.
