About The Position

The Mental Health Counseling Track is a part-time, in-person, unpaid clinical internship/externship for graduate trainees seeking intensive experience providing evidence-based psychotherapy in a collaborative, multidisciplinary practice. Trainees provide direct clinical care to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families with a range of emotional, behavioral, developmental, and adjustment concerns. They receive intensive supervision and mentorship from licensed psychologists, social workers, and other behavioral health professionals, and develop skills in psychotherapy, case conceptualization, treatment planning, parent consultation, group intervention, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Most direct clinical experience is devoted to psychotherapy and related behavioral health services. Trainees may also receive introductory exposure to psychological assessment through observation, multidisciplinary consultation, and participation in intake and diagnostic discussions when appropriate. The program includes work with clients presenting with anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, disruptive behavior disorders, learning differences, and other developmental, behavioral, and emotional concerns. The program runs for 12 months from the selected start date. Trainees complete at least 16 hours per week across two in-person clinical days, with the possibility of up to 24 hours across three days with program approval. Weekly activities generally include approximately eight hours of direct clinical services and eight hours of indirect clinical and professional learning. Training includes individual supervision, group supervision, didactics, observation, case consultation, and professional development. Typical schedules may include after-school/evening blocks and, in some cases, a weekend clinical block. Attendance at all three orientation days, scheduled May 11–13, 2027, is required for trainees starting in May, June, July, or August. The placement is based at Manhattan Psychology Group offices on the Upper West Side and/or in Long Island City. Off-site training opportunities, such as home visits, may be available based on the trainee's goals and program requirements. The position is intended for graduate students pursuing careers in psychotherapy, pediatric psychology, clinical psychology, school psychology, counseling psychology, behavioral health, or integrated mental health care.
