About The Position

Magoo’s, a family-owned and operated discount pet supply store based in Michigan, is hiring a part-time Cashier. The role combines customer service and sales with checkout duties and care for the store’s animals. The position is on-site at 3314 S Linden Rd, Flint, Michigan. On-site training is provided. The role averages 15 to 20 hours per week, with shifts of 4 to 8 hours; day and evening shifts are available, and weekend work is required. Pay starts at $14 per hour, with potential for promotion and yearly raises.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Retail experience.
Basic animal knowledge.
Cash handling and counting skills.
Organizational skills.
Customer service skills.
Ability to stand, move, bend, bag, and reach while handling items weighing up to 50+ lbs.
Basic computer skills, including keyboard and mouse use and Microsoft programs.
Basic math and reading skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to commute to and from scheduled shifts.

Responsibilities

Greet customers and answer their questions or concerns on the sales floor.
Upsell products, offer special products, and encourage customers to sign up for rewards accounts.
Assist customers with checkout, returns, and exchanges.
Answer incoming store phone calls and transfer calls as needed.
Stock, scan, and face shelves; organize product overflow.
Keep the store neat, clean, and organized, including cleaning shelves, windows, the dog wash area, and floors.
Gather carts from inside and outside the store.
Follow company procedures, including those for incident reports, inventory, coupons, and refunds.
Prioritize tasks and multitask as needed; assist with additional duties assigned by the manager on shift.
Take lunch breaks when asked by managers.
Check animal equipment, including fish tanks, filters, and light bulbs, to ensure it is working effectively.
Clean and maintain animal habitats and properly feed and water animals.
Hold and handle animals when needed.
Price, label, and place merchandise in the correct displays.
Report ripped, torn, or damaged merchandise, signs, tags, or equipment.
Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.
