About The Position

Flexcompute is hiring a Korea-based CAE Application Engineer to work with customer engineering teams on structural, thermal, and RF problems, particularly in semiconductors and advanced packaging. The role involves applying GPU-native physics simulation and engineering technology to real design challenges, evaluating new solvers against established tools, and helping shape product development through customer feedback. The position may suit either an application-oriented engineer with strong physical understanding and practical simulation experience, or a scientific-computing-oriented engineer with strengths in numerical methods and technical computing. The role is an independent contractor engagement, performed remotely from South Korea, with regular visits to Korean customer sites and occasional travel to Flexcompute’s Boston-area headquarters. Some meetings may take place outside standard Korean working hours because teams work across time zones. The successful candidate will formulate simulation strategies, build and validate simulations, interpret results, lead customer technical evaluations and benchmarks, investigate numerical or modeling discrepancies, and create reusable Python workflows and technical demonstrations. They will train users and deliver presentations and workshops in Korean and English, collaborate with customers and internal product and solver teams, and turn physical insight and user needs into actionable product feedback. The role calls for ownership of difficult, ambiguous technical problems and a focus on producing trustworthy results useful to engineering decisions.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, materials science, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field; alternatively, a BSc in one of these fields with several years of hands-on industry simulation experience.
  • Hands-on numerical simulation experience in at least one of structural mechanics, heat transfer, or RF/electromagnetics, using commercial or in-house tools.
  • Strong foundations in physics, mathematics, or engineering, with the ability to reason from first principles about whether results are correct.
  • Ability to write practical scripts, preferably in Python, to automate work, analyze data, and test ideas.
  • Fluent Korean and comfortable professional English, written and spoken.
  • Authorization to live and work in South Korea without visa sponsorship.
  • Motivation to work on real engineering problems, product impact, and industrial applications, along with ownership, persistence, and intellectual curiosity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with semiconductor packaging and reliability, including 2.5D/3D-IC, chiplets, HBM, warpage, solder-joint or interconnect reliability, or fatigue.
  • Experience with electronics cooling and thermal management for chips, servers, or power electronics.
  • Experience with SI/PI, EMI/EMC, antenna design, or PCB- and package-level electromagnetic analysis.
  • Experience with commercial simulation tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Icepak, FloTHERM, HFSS, SIwave, Sigrity, CST, ADS, or COMSOL.
  • Knowledge of numerical methods for PDEs, meshing, optimization, or uncertainty analysis.
  • Experience with C++, GPU computing, CUDA, or high-performance computing.
  • Experience applying AI or machine learning to engineering, simulation, or technical data.
  • Evidence of industry R&D simulation work that informed design decisions; application engineering or technical consulting for simulation software; applied research connecting models to experiments or physical systems; or independent technical projects, simulation tools, automation, or open-source contributions.
  • Strong programming and scientific-computing capability for potential contributions to algorithms, performance, meshing, or simulation infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Understand challenging industrial problems, identify the relevant physics, and formulate appropriate simulation strategies.
  • Build, run, validate, and interpret simulations, comparing results with measurements, reference data, or established tools.
  • Lead technical evaluations and benchmarks with customers in Korea, from problem definition through final results.
  • Evaluate new Flexcompute solvers on demanding customer cases and report where they match, exceed, or fall short of established tools.
  • Investigate unexpected results, convergence behavior, modeling assumptions, boundary conditions, mesh sensitivity, and discrepancies with experiments.
  • Create clear, reusable Python workflows, examples, benchmarks, and technical demonstrations.
  • Train users and deliver technical presentations and workshops in Korean and English.
  • Collaborate with customers, application engineers, product teams, and solver developers.
  • Translate user needs and physical insight into actionable product feedback.
  • Take ownership of difficult, ambiguous problems and drive them toward trustworthy results.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation.
  • Meaningful equity.
  • Opportunity to learn from a technically strong team and work on problems at the edge of computationally practical simulation.
  • Opportunity to influence real industrial design and validation decisions and take meaningful ownership from the beginning.
