Business Office Associate
About The Position
As a Business Operations Associate, you will support store operations by accurately processing sales, auction, and appraisal transactions. The role combines customer service, attention to detail, and organizational skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. You will manage cash, audit and process paperwork, and communicate with customers and internal teams while upholding CarMax’s commitment to transparency and integrity. The position also supports multiple departments, assists with overflow traffic, and helps train new associates. Associates are expected to follow CarMax Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and maintain a clean, orderly work area. The hourly rate is $21.86–$24.61.
Requirements
- Ability to read, interpret, and record data accurately for compliance and reporting.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry systems, with intermediate PC skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for customer and team interactions.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and adherence to CarMax policies.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers, answer questions, and guide them through paperwork processes.
- Process and audit paperwork for retail and wholesale sales, including deal jackets, finance contracts, and DMV documentation.
- Manage auction and appraisal transactions, ensuring accurate titles, payoffs, and documentation for funding.
- Receive payments, prepare deposits, and follow cash security protocols.
- Train and mentor new associates.
- Support store operations by assisting multiple departments and balancing overflow traffic.
- Perform filing, data entry, and reconciliation of missing information while maintaining accuracy.
- Follow CarMax Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and maintain a clean, orderly work area.

- Part-time Associates may receive state-mandated sick time.
- Part-time Associates may receive 8–40 hours of vacation per year, depending on length of service and subject to a one-year waiting period.
- Part-time Associates may receive 4 hours of Floating Holiday Time each calendar year, subject to manager approval.
