About The Position

The Building Engineer supports the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of a USPS facility and its surrounding grounds. This position performs and supports preventive, corrective, and routine maintenance activities for building systems, equipment, and facility infrastructure to help ensure the site remains safe, compliant, and fully operational. The role supports operation and maintenance responsibilities for approximately 433,382 square feet of occupied federal facility space, including two 500-ton chillers, two 250 HP boilers, 47 air handling units, a Honeywell Notifier fire alarm system, 10 elevators, and extensive HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, grounds, custodial, and support systems identified throughout the task order addendums. The role works closely with facility leadership and other engineering staff to support work planning, issue resolution, and timely completion of maintenance requirements in a 24-hour operational environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing building operations, maintenance, repairs, and facility support services in a commercial, industrial, or government environment.
  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, inspections, and general building systems support.
  • Ability to follow facility safety, compliance, and handling requirements related to insecticides, chemicals, and hazardous materials in accordance with applicable USPS guidance.
  • Ability to maintain maintenance records, document deficiencies, and support accurate reporting of facility issues and completed work.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with facility leadership, engineers, suppliers, and sub-suppliers.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site during normal working hours in a staffing model designed to maintain continuous engineering coverage and timely completion of work.

Nice To Haves

  • trade school, vocational training, technical certification, or an associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting complex facility systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, elevators, and central plant equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work full-time on-site during normal working hours to support daily facility engineering operations and maintenance activities.
  • Perform preventive, corrective, and routine maintenance tasks necessary to operate and maintain the facility and grounds.
  • Support timely completion of work orders, inspections, repairs, and maintenance assignments across building systems and equipment.
  • Assist with operation and maintenance activities across a large federal facility environment that includes central plant equipment, air handling systems, elevators, fire/life safety systems, and related building support infrastructure.
  • Follow USPS guidelines related to insecticides, chemicals, hazardous materials, and other applicable facility safety requirements.
  • Assist in carrying out detailed work plans that support Addendum requirements and facility maintenance objectives.
  • Document maintenance deficiencies, issues, and operational concerns, and support accurate recordkeeping for completed work.
  • Coordinate with facility leadership, engineers, suppliers, and sub-suppliers to support reliable building operations and maintenance services.
  • Support an operational model that staffs to appropriate levels to ensure timely completion of work and maintains a minimum of four engineers for each hour of the day.
