About The Position

The Blood Collection Staff member uses healthcare and/or customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process. The role includes working with a team to transport and set up equipment at local community collection sites, creating a welcoming and comfortable experience for volunteer donors, and following safety procedures while collecting blood donations for hospitals. Paid phlebotomy training is provided; prior medical experience is not required.

Candidates must reside in one of the listed counties in Ohio, Kentucky, or Indiana. The Cincinnati, Ohio schedule is variable to meet donor and community needs and may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Schedules are provided two to three weeks in advance. The starting rate is $18.73 per hour.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills.
• Current, valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs.
• Good manual dexterity.
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Must reside in one of the listed counties in Ohio, Kentucky, or Indiana.
• The position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.

Nice To Haves

• Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience, such as CNA, MA, or EMT experience.
• Prior leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Personally connect with donors, listen to their stories, and explain the impact of their donations.
• Work with teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment for volunteer donors.
• Collect blood donations with attention to detail and ensure they meet goals and regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused.
• Follow safety procedures throughout the blood collection process.
• Help transport, set up, and tear down equipment at donation sites.
• May drive Red Cross vehicles.
