About The Position

Gourmet Dining & Chartwells Higher Education is hiring a full-time Barista at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. The Barista prepares and serves coffee, espresso drinks, and related food and beverage items, following standard recipes, food-safety guidelines, and quality standards. The role includes customer service, order entry and payment handling, food presentation, and maintaining a clean and orderly service area. Days and hours may vary; further schedule details are provided during the interview. Prior barista experience is required. The fixed pay rate is $15.92 per hour.

Responsibilities

Prepare espresso orders for customers and catering using standard measures and recipes.
Enter orders accurately into a POS device and accept cash and charge payments.
Replenish condiments, beverages, and general supplies while maintaining a clean service area.
Ensure proper presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures, following HACCP standards.
Maintain sanitation and orderliness of equipment, supplies, and utensils.
Prepare food using approved recipes and prescribed production standards.
Keep display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service.
Thoroughly clean equipment and the workstation before leaving the area for other assignments.
Greet customers courteously and interact with them to support customer satisfaction.
Relay relevant customer concerns to supervisors.
Serve customers quickly and efficiently and prevent delays in serving lines.
Understand daily menu items and explain them accurately to customers.
Use selling techniques, communicate with customers, and assist with purchasing decisions.
Merchandise display foods attractively and serve food neatly according to standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
