About The Position

Hy-Vee is seeking a customer-focused Barista for its coffee shop. The role involves preparing beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and clean, and helping customers find what they need. Baristas contribute to a welcoming, positive customer experience in a fast-paced store environment and work closely with teammates. Training and support are provided; prior experience is not required. The position reports to and receives direction from the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director, and Coffee Shop Department Manager. The work takes place in a store coffee shop and can involve deadline pressure, multiple priorities, noise, moving equipment, cleaning chemicals or solvents, possible electrical shock, and temperature extremes. Safety training is provided. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

Follow written and verbal instructions.
Use basic math for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
Communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
Stay organized and keep pace in a busy coffee shop environment.
Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice To Haves

Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly and provide helpful, courteous service.
Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list for daily needs.
Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
