About The Position

A Barnes & Noble Barista is an integral member of the Café team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping them choose beverages and café items. The role supports efficient café operations by maintaining an attractive and clean presentation, stocking deliveries, tidying the bake case and dining area, preparing food and drinks, and providing quick, friendly, professional service at the register. Baristas are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility in responding to store scheduling needs, a positive and energetic approach to work, consideration toward colleagues, cheerful customer service, and willingness to learn. They receive training in café operations and are expected to become proficient in the use of store technology, merchandising, register operations, delivery receiving and stocking, food and beverage preparation, cleaning, FIFO practices, loss prevention, and de-escalation. The work involves prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and substantial walking. Baristas may work in other stores when able and when needed to support the wider Cluster. As they gain experience, Baristas build knowledge of café products, promotions, customization options, retail offerings, training tools, and café safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures. With demonstrated mastery of the role’s skills, they are expected to advance to Senior Barista. Benefits depend on scheduled weekly hours and location. Employees scheduled under 20 hours per week receive an employee discount, EAP, and sick pay. Those scheduled for 20–29.99 hours receive those benefits plus paid time off, including paid maternity and parental leave, company-paid holidays, transit, and a 401(k) with company match. Those scheduled for 30 or more hours receive those benefits plus medical, dental and vision coverage, spending accounts, disability benefits, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement. Benefits are subject to plan terms and may vary by location and state regulations.
