About The Position
The Barista makes and serves coffee and espresso drinks, along with related food and beverage items. The role handles food according to HACCP guidelines and food-service quality standards, and interacts with customers and coworkers in a friendly, courteous manner. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, with hours that may vary. The work location is Canteen Refreshments in Chicago, Illinois.
Requirements
- Previous barista experience is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Prepare espresso orders for customers and catering using standard measures and recipes.
- Enter orders accurately into a POS device and accept cash and charge payments.
- Replenish condiments, beverages, and general supplies while maintaining a clean service area.
- Ensure proper presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures, and follow HACCP standards.
- Maintain sanitation and orderliness of equipment, supplies, and utensils.
- Prepare food using approved recipes and prescribed production standards.
- Keep display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service.
- Thoroughly clean equipment and the workstation before leaving the area for other assignments.
- Greet customers courteously, interact to ensure satisfaction, and relay relevant customer concerns to supervisors.
- Serve customers quickly and efficiently and prevent delays in serving lines.
- Understand daily menu items and explain them accurately to customers.
- Use selling techniques, communicate with customers, and assist with buying decisions.
- Merchandise display foods attractively and serve food neatly according to standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
