About The Position

The Banquet Captain supervises and manages banquet events for the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club, ensuring smooth operations and prioritizing guest comfort and safety. The role calls for strong leadership, organization, time management, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while managing multiple demands. The captain helps create positive guest experiences and models the club’s core values through teamwork, efficiency, effective communication, flexibility, integrity, punctuality, and adherence to procedures and regulations. This full-time position is based at Adobe Bar & Grille in Phoenix, Arizona. Work is primarily indoors and outdoors, and schedules vary according to business needs. Busy-season availability is expected, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overtime when needed. The captain may also be assigned to assist in the Adobe Bar & Grille restaurant.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least two years of catering operations, banquet, or relevant experience, preferably in a lead or supervisor capacity.
Ability to be flexible, take on tasks, prioritize, and handle changing situations.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to learn quickly when faced with new problems and challenges.
Ability to interact comfortably with coworkers, guests, and members.
Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
Active listening skills and ability to retain and act on information.
Openness to change and an action-oriented approach to work.
Ability to use an event management application.
Proficiency in the MS Office Suite.
Ability to use the employee self-service function in the company's human resources/payroll database.
Valid driver's license, as the position may use golf carts.
Must be at least 19 years old.
Manager-level Arizona Food Handler's Card.
Title 4 Arizona Liquor Certification.
Regular attendance.
Availability for additional hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed; approval is required before overtime is incurred.
Ability to manage and prioritize competing tasks in a fast-paced environment and seek supervisory assistance when appropriate.
During the busy season, availability to work up to or near 40 hours per week, including overtime as needed; during the non-peak season, at least 30 hours per workweek is required.

Responsibilities

Perform operational positions within banquet operations and participate in and lead department meetings.
Process banquet checks accurately and efficiently for payment.
Assist with the weekly banquet staff schedule.
Assist management, staff, and event organizers with event layout and logistics.
Delegate duties to servers and oversee activity during events.
Supervise food and beverage setup and service.
Confirm event-space setup according to customer specifications, including moving furniture and general cleanup when necessary.
Communicate customer needs to kitchen staff.
Maintain a professional, neat, and well-groomed appearance.
Train and develop catering servers using existing training materials.
Meet and greet client contacts.
Know venue layouts, table, seat, and station numbers, table setups, room capacities, operating hours, price ranges, and dress code.
Communicate setup requirements for buffets and receptions, along with daily event overviews, to staff during pre-function meetings.
Bill the guest's main contact according to banquet event order requirements.
Enforce and adhere to Arizona Biltmore Golf Club policies.
Maintain complete knowledge of banquet and restaurant menu selections.
Follow safety standards and use appropriate safety equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
