About The Position

The Bakery Clerk proofs and bakes unfinished bakery goods according to product handling information, using ovens and other equipment. The role unpacks frozen bakery goods and displays appropriate quantities based on production charts, prepares products for the next business day, packages and decorates bakery items, and helps members with questions, recommendations, calls, and special orders. The clerk also receives and inspects shipments, maintains product freshness and accurate pricing, and follows food-safety, sanitation, and equipment-safety procedures.

The position supports BJ’s club and member service standards, maintains a safe and positive environment, and may include duties in other departments. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Responsibilities

• Answer questions, recommend bakery items, respond to Member calls, and take special orders.
• Proof and bake unfinished bakery goods according to product handling information, using ovens and other equipment.
• Use bakery production charts to guide production and display needs, and gather products for preparation for the next business day.
• Package freshly baked goods, including cookies, Danish pastries, muffins, rolls, breads, pies, cakes, and other items as needed.
• Unpack frozen bakery goods and display appropriate quantities based on production chart recommendations.
• Decorate special-order and case products.
• Rotate and store bakery products according to food-safety, freshness, and product-handling policies and procedures.
• Receive, inspect, and store bakery shipments.
• Check that products are fresh and meet company quality standards; check daily for outdated products and follow salvage and stale-product procedures.
• Generate labels and price tickets, perform price checks when necessary, and ensure items are accurately priced.
• Clean and sanitize bakery equipment, display fixtures, and food surfaces, including ovens, utensils, refrigerated cases, display racks, and tables.
• Operate and handle bakery equipment safely and according to company policies and procedures.
• Maintain club policies and procedures and perform other assigned duties, including work in other departments as needed.
• Deliver service excellence, address Member concerns, and contribute to a safe, positive, inclusive, and clean club environment.
• Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
