About The Position

Festival Foods is hiring a full-time Bakery Assistant Manager at its Appleton–Northland location. Reporting to the Bakery Manager, this role supports bakery operations and team leadership, stepping in to lead the department when the manager is absent. The assistant manager helps deliver fresh, high-quality baked goods and excellent guest service while maintaining operational, safety, and company standards.

The position involves training associates, supporting performance reviews, managing inventory and pricing, maintaining food safety records, helping guests and handling special orders, and coordinating with store and department leaders. The work schedule includes mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role requires standing for long periods, regular walking, bending, stooping and kneeling, operating bakery and other equipment, and occasionally lifting up to 60 pounds. Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures is part of the work environment.

Requirements

• High school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to motivate and lead a team of bakers and pastry specialists.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of technology and computer use.
• Thorough understanding of the food service industry and retail bakery operations.
• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with guests and personnel.
• Comprehensive understanding of safety requirements and company policies, and ability to recognize and address safety hazards.
• Willingness to obtain proper training and knowledge for equipment and procedures.
• Must have a Wisconsin Certified Food Manager License; the company will cover the certification cost if needed.
• Ability to stand in place for long periods, walk in the store, and bend, stoop, and kneel regularly.
• Fine finger and broad manual dexterity, eye-hand-foot coordination, full range of upper-body motion for occasional stock lifting, and ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.
• Functional sensory abilities to visually monitor the store, create displays, and operate equipment.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 60 pounds.
• Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule.
• Ability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Bakery Department Manager in overseeing bakery operations and leading the bakery team; lead the department in the manager’s absence.
• Train new bakery associates on pastry offerings and food service standards; conduct performance reviews and provide feedback.
• Maintain department standards; manage inventory and ensure accurate pricing.
• Maintain cleanliness, quality, quantity, and safety standards in bakery operations.
• Help guests find products, take special orders, and address concerns professionally.
• Set a positive example, assist with daily tasks, and foster a productive work environment.
• Maintain accurate food safety logs, follow company policies, and promptly address policy violations.
• Collaborate with the Store Director, Bakery Director, other department managers, and bakery associates to exceed guest expectations and ensure smooth operations.
• Manage timekeeping accuracy and communicate with HR regarding scheduling issues.
• Maintain regular, timely attendance and provide adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences.
• Perform other duties as needed to support the team.
