About The Position

The Area Vice President of Operations Specialist provides interim leadership and oversight to assist with developing, implementing, and evaluating operational policies and procedures. The role supports the delivery of quality patient care and family services in a cost-effective manner and represents the company in the community.

The specialist directs and coordinates local operational functions; supports regulatory compliance and survey readiness; develops revenue performance and relationships with healthcare organizations; and manages contract implementation. The role oversees day-to-day program operations, including financial management, employment processes, quality assurance and improvement, payroll, admissions, medical staff, systems, business planning, human resources, and staff development.

The position carries overall responsibility for patient and family services and clinical services across home, hospital, nursing home, and other settings. It also manages the Volunteer Program, supports volunteer and bereavement program compliance, serves as the company’s community spokesperson, coordinates public relations and media requests with corporate communications, and helps resolve complaints. The specialist participates in coordinating patient hospice care and the hospice quality assessment and performance improvement program.

Requirements

• Familiarity with state and federal guidelines and regulations.
• Working knowledge of budget development, financial profit/loss processes, and human resources.
• Ability to handle confidential information.

• Ability to communicate clearly with remote field, mid-level, and executive staff.

• Five years of previous managerial experience; three years in the healthcare service industry is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance coverage.
• An active, unencumbered RN license in the state of residence is required if the employee is an RN.
• Intermediate Excel skills.
• Basic PowerPoint skills.
• Experience reviewing data in electronic systems.

Nice To Haves

• RN degree highly preferred; a bachelor’s degree in a business-related field may be considered.
• Three years of experience in the healthcare service industry is preferred.
• Experience with HomeCare-HomeBase preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate local operational functions.
• Assist in ensuring the hospice meets applicable regulatory requirements and is ready for inspections, surveys, reviews, licensure, certifications, and accreditations.
• Supervise compliance of administrative functions and policies with regulatory requirements, including maintaining current personnel records for surveys.
• Maintain updated copies of applicable regulations, statutes, policies, and procedures.
• Coordinate with corporate staff, the Medical Director, Clinical Manager, and Executive Director or Administrator to prepare for regulatory on-site surveys.
• Develop and expand revenue performance.
• Develop and maintain relationships with hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, and other healthcare organizations in accordance with the business plan and revenue budgets.
• Manage contract implementation, ensuring discharge planning and case review functions are understood, agreed upon, and implemented in compliance with applicable law and with positive results for the hospice.
• Maintain ongoing relationships with key officials at contracting entities to support effective contract operations.
• Supervise day-to-day program operations, including financial management, employment processes, quality assurance and improvement, payroll, admissions, medical staff, systems operations, business planning, human resource policy, and staff development.
• Take overall responsibility for the clinical services function across home, hospital, nursing home, and other care settings.
• Manage the Volunteer Program, including supervision of the director of volunteers.
• Ensure volunteer and bereavement programs perform in compliance with the local work plan developed with corporate staff.
• Serve as the company’s official spokesperson in the community and manage public relations and media opportunities in coordination with corporate communications.
• Ensure complaints from patients, families, and the public are handled and resolved.
• Participate in coordinating all aspects of patient hospice care and in the hospice quality assessment and performance improvement program.
