About The Position

The Associate I, Retail Sales Cashier provides exceptional customer service by greeting customers in a welcoming manner and responding to inquiries promptly and professionally. The role involves operating a computer-based point-of-sale system, ensuring transactions and product pricing are accurate, and helping maintain a well-stocked, organized sales floor that meets company standards. Cashiers also support Goodwill’s mission by inviting customers to round up their purchases and explaining the initiative.

Requirements

• Strong customer service skills.
• Accuracy with numbers and general calculations, including understanding the value of U.S. currency and coins and using basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
• Ability to operate a computer-based cash register and credit card machine.
• Ability to withstand prolonged standing, bending, and lifting for up to eight hours per day.
• Ability to see color for accurate transactions.
• Ability to work a varied schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, with occasional overtime as necessary.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of retail sales or cash-handling experience.
• Strong cash-handling skills.

Responsibilities

• Verify till counts, complete accurate cashier transactions, and maintain a balanced cash drawer using a computer-based point-of-sale system.
• Encourage customer participation in the roundup initiative and explain the mission it supports.
• Provide excellent customer service in keeping with company values.
• Assist customers with questions, concerns, and purchases.
• Complete opening and closing procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked sales floor by cleaning and organizing shelves and racks, picking up items, putting away products, and returning unwanted or returned items.
• Keep the point-of-sale area, sales floor, and restrooms safe, clean, organized, and well stocked.
• Make customer delight/power hour announcements over the intercom to organize and clean the sales floor.
• Follow retail center policies, procedures, and safety processes.
• Cross-train in other departments or areas and provide backup as required.
• Perform additional duties as required.
