About The Position

This position is part of the Homewood Student Affairs Division and is dedicated to enhancing the operational effectiveness of the On-Campus Living department and ensuring high-quality services for students in university housing. Reporting to the Director of Residential Experience, this role supports the academic mission of Johns Hopkins University through the creation of a student-centered, inclusive residential environment. This position is part of the Residential Life & On-Campus Living leadership team and is responsible for oversight of departmental operations and administrative processes, recruitment and training of professional and student staff, assessment initiatives, incident response, and ongoing professional development initiatives. This role is expected to have an up-to-date understanding of all OCL processes and is a live-in position.

Requirements

Master's Degree.
Five years of related experience, preferably in residential life or higher ed.
Demonstrated success in a complex, multi-layered and data-driven organization.
Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds (e.g., class, race, nationality, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, etc.) and to lead and foster sensitivity to diversity and an inclusive campus and community culture.
Self-directed, able to establish timelines and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment and ability to practice open and effective communications with students, faculty, and staff to build and maintain collaborative relationships.
Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks, and use good judgment in providing services based on goals.
Experience advising students and creating a developmental experience with continuous leadership training and positive learning experiences.
Supervisory experience – having supervised full-time professional staff
Demonstrated use of MS Office

Responsibilities

Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of two Assistant Directors, and indirectly recruit and hire the team of live-in Residence Directors and roughly 77 Resident Advisors
Lead weekly staff meetings in collaboration with the Director of Residential Experience.
Liaise with the Director of Residential Experience to plan, execute, and support all Residential Curriculum planning.
Oversee the departmental professional development plans for full-time staff, ensuring competency development.
Ensure student staff eligibility for hiring for all student staff positions and provide accurate student rosters.
Serve as a critical resource for residential students in support of our university care and conduct system.
Provide guidance and support on all housing-related concerns and conflicts raised by residential students.
Co-lead the department student staff advisory with the Director of Residential Experience to solicit continuous student feedback to improve housing policies and programs.
Ensure high visibility and accessibility for residential students through office hours, residence hall visits, and campus events.
Coordinate and support large department operations, including but not limited to move-in/move-out, implementation of room conditions reports (RCR), health & safety checks, RA evaluations & placement.
Serve as a co-chair for the department’s transition committee to ensure a successful transition from academic year to summer conferences.
Develop and implement a comprehensive onboarding process for full-time staff positions.
Collaborate with On-Campus Living leadership to develop and maintain all live-on staff agreements.
Oversee professional staff training and ensure the development and execution of a robust competency-based training program.
Develop, plan, and execute all recruitment for student staff positions in Residential Life.
Serve as lead for the development and implementation of all standard operating procedures within Residential Life.
Serve as a secondary on-call administrator in a scheduled rotation during the year and during university break periods.
Develop and sustain strong and effective collaborative partnerships and relationships with key constituencies across campus.
Develop and implement an On-Campus Living assessment plan grounded in student development theory.
Analyze data to inform continuous improvement for Residential Life and develop an annual report of findings.
Create and implement a holistic assessment and evaluation plan for the Residential Curriculum.
Collaborate with the Director of Residential Experience to ensure alignment with staff goal setting, performance, and evaluation of full-time staff.
Develop, implement, and revise the evaluation process for all student staff.
Collaborate with On-Campus Living leadership to develop and implement a successful onboarding process for all Residence Life professional team members, including but not limited to: technology needs, Jcard/Access, housing (if applicable), onboarding schedule, and working with key stakeholders to ensure new employees are properly trained.
Coordinate and implement exit processes for student staff and professional staff to best support departmental needs.
Serve as lead for monitoring goal achievement and provide end-of-year report details for the department.
Serve as a representative on divisional and/or university committees as assigned by the Director.
Support university and strategic goal initiatives and ensure visibility and accessibility.
Ensure proper training for all budgetary guidelines and compliance under the guidance of the department’s Sr. Financial Analyst.
Develop spending allotments for all residential communities to ensure intentionality and continuous spending within residential areas.
Approve Residential Life departmental expenditure and ensure proper purchasing card reconciliation.
Keep an active and accurate spreadsheet for Residential Life expenses for budget forecasting/projections.
Activate approved meal plan allocations for RAs and OCL team each semester and summer, track usage, and ensure proper billing is verified.
Set up, monitor, and address any compliance issues with procurement spending.
Participate in monthly financial meetings to ensure proper spending and address any issues with student stipends.
