About The Position

The Assistant Youth Mentor supports before- and after-school enrichment programs for the 2026–2027 school year. The specific childcare site will be determined during the interview. The role focuses on helping children learn and grow in a fun, diverse environment, maintaining a positive and developmentally appropriate learning environment, and communicating effectively with families. The position may involve overseeing classroom staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, or enrollment in at least two years of child development coursework.
• At least two years of verified child care experience.
• Prior experience working with children in a professional, volunteer, or familial capacity.
• Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
• Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep trainings up to date, including at least six hours of child care-related training annually.

Responsibilities

• Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build their self-esteem.
• Implement the program curriculum and ensure learning experiences are child-centered and developmentally appropriate; potentially oversee classroom staff.
• Provide quality adult-child interactions through engagement, positive and encouraging feedback, and open-ended questions.
• Use positive reinforcement to redirect behavior and support behavior management.
• Communicate patiently, kindly, effectively, and promptly with parents and guardians.
• Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
• Keep centers organized and stocked with quality learning materials in labeled containers appropriate to each learning center.
• Attend monthly team-planning meetings or additional meetings as needed.
