Assistant Youth Mentor - Before/After School Enrichment

About The Position

The Assistant Youth Mentor supports before- and after-school enrichment for the 2026–2027 school year. The role focuses on helping children learn and grow through engaging, developmentally appropriate activities in a fun and diverse environment. The childcare site will be determined during the interview. The mentor works with children, families, and program staff, maintains a positive and well-organized learning environment, and completes required records and paperwork.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, or enrollment in at least two years of child development coursework.
At least two years of verified child care experience.
Prior experience working with children, whether professional, volunteer, or familial.
Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep training current, including at least six hours of child-care-related training annually.

Responsibilities

Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build their self-esteem.
Implement the program curriculum and ensure learning experiences are child-centered and developmentally appropriate; this may include overseeing classroom staff.
Provide quality adult-child interactions through engagement, positive and encouraging feedback, and open-ended questions.
Use positive reinforcement techniques to redirect behavior.
Communicate patiently, kindly, effectively, and promptly with parents and guardians.
Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
Keep centers organized and supplied with quality learning materials in labeled containers associated with appropriate learning centers.
Attend monthly team-planning meetings or additional meetings as needed.
