About The Position

As a full-time Assistant Store Manager at Famous Footwear, you provide a great shoe-store experience for the whole family through customer engagement. You act as the store leader when the Store Manager is absent and develop your ability to motivate the team to achieve sales targets and growth goals. Through personal example, training, and development, you support a store culture that builds customer loyalty to the store, its brands, and the company. You stay current on trends and support the team’s product knowledge and store presentation.

The role combines customer experience, people leadership, talent discovery, sales performance, and retail operations. You work with the Store Manager to hire and develop associates, meet staffing needs, maintain operational standards, and use insights to improve results. When the Store Manager is away, you assume store leadership responsibilities, reinforce company policies and programs, and help assess and develop team talent.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of sales experience; retail sales is preferred.
• Experience interviewing, hiring, and training people.
• Ability to lead, manage, motivate, and communicate positively with store associates at all levels.
• Ability to train, coach, and develop associates in customer experience and operational tasks.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion while partnering with the Store Sales Manager as needed.
• Strong cognitive skills, including problem-solving, analysis, decision-making, and financial and quantitative analysis.
• Advanced working knowledge of general retail practices and procedures.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, nights, weekends, and extended hours.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 40 pounds from floor level to above shoulder height using appropriate equipment and safety techniques.
• Ability to meet the demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.
• Ability to remain mobile on the sales floor for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Inspire associates to build customer relationships and deliver operational excellence and a strong customer experience.
• Coach associates on selling behaviors and customer connection.
• Seek and network with external talent; collaborate with the Store Manager to interview and hire candidates.
• Manage daily retail operations, including pricing, shipping processing, and inventory, while maintaining store standards.
• Support staffing levels based on associate availability, peak days, and seasonal hiring needs.
• Take accountability for sales goals and contribute to the location’s overall performance.
• Partner with the Store Manager to apply insights and observations to improve results.
• Foster an inclusive, respectful, positive, and supportive team environment.
• Lead the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
• Support compliance with company policies and programs through training, ongoing development, inspection, and follow-up.
• Assess team members’ strengths and development opportunities and help develop internal talent with the Store Manager.
• Train, coach, and develop associates in customer experience, selling techniques, and operational tasks.
