About The Position

The Assistant Meat & Seafood Manager helps customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service while managing and leading a busy store team. The role assists the Meat & Seafood Manager with department management and merchandising to maximize productivity and profit, and is responsible for ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and team supervision. It coordinates production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. The position helps hire, teach, train, and develop the team; supports department ordering and inventory; and ensures proper receiving, stocking, and unloading practices to maintain freshness and quality. It also operates and maintains meat and seafood equipment, performs department housekeeping, and ensures company health, safety, sanitation, and Weights and Measures requirements are followed.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience and proven leadership experience.
Be dependable and reliable.
Show an outgoing, friendly behavior and positive attitude, with the ability to interact with customers.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walking up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Be able to lift or carry products weighing 25 to 90 lbs. between heights of 4 and 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 85 lbs. of force for up to 100 feet and 5 hours.
Be able to move product racks weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring up to 25 lbs. of force for up to 50 feet and 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring more than 35 lbs. of force for up to 2 feet and 1 hour.

Nice To Haves

2–3 years of grocery retail experience in meat department processes and procedures is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide excellent customer service and help customers make healthy food choices.
Assist the Meat & Seafood Manager with managing and merchandising the department for productivity and profit.
Manage ordering, inventory controls, and product quality, and supervise the Meat & Seafood team.
Coordinate production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork.
Help lead the team in delivering quality products and a high level of customer service.
Assist with hiring, teaching, training, and developing team members.
Know weekly ad items and assist with inventory and ordering.
Follow department receiving, stocking, and unloading practices to ensure freshness and quality, including the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Unload and sort store deliveries, and operate and maintain meat and seafood equipment.
Ensure company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations are followed by the team.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize department work areas.
Follow safety, health, Weights and Measures regulations, and company recipes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
