About The Position

The Assistant Meat & Seafood Manager helps customers make healthy food choices by delivering excellent customer service and helping manage and lead the store’s Meat & Seafood team. The role supports the Meat & Seafood Manager in managing and merchandising the department for productivity and profit, and is responsible for ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and team supervision. The position coordinates production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. It also supports hiring, teaching, training, and developing team members; maintaining product freshness and quality; operating and maintaining department equipment; and ensuring compliance with company health, safety, sanitation, and Weights and Measures requirements. The job includes unloading and sorting deliveries and performing department housekeeping.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience and proven leadership experience.
Be dependable and reliable.
Have an outgoing, friendly manner, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and Company recipes.
Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walking up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Possess good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Be able to lift or carry products weighing 25 to 90 lbs. between heights of 4 and 60 inches, for distances up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 85 lbs. of force, for distances up to 100 feet and for up to 5 hours.
Be able to horizontally move product racks weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring up to 25 lbs. of force, for distances up to 50 feet and for up to 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring more than 35 lbs. of force, for distances up to 2 feet and for up to 1 hour.

Nice To Haves

Two to three years of grocery retail experience in Meat department processes and procedures is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Meat & Seafood Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit.
Manage ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Meat & Seafood team.
Coordinate production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork.
Help the team deliver high-quality products, excellent service, and a positive customer experience.
Assist with hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Meat & Seafood team.
Follow weekly ad items and assist with inventory and ordering.
Enforce department practices for receiving, stocking, and unloading products to maintain freshness and quality, including the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Unload and sort store deliveries, and operate and maintain meat and seafood equipment.
Ensure company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations are followed, and verify that team members understand and follow them.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
