About The Position

The Assistant Meat & Seafood Manager helps customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service while managing and leading a busy store team. The role assists the Meat & Seafood Manager with department management and merchandising to maximize productivity and profit, and is responsible for ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and team supervision. The assistant manager coordinates production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. The role also supports hiring, teaching, training, and developing team members; monitors weekly ad items; and helps ensure proper receiving, stocking, unloading, freshness, and quality practices. The position requires operating and maintaining meat and seafood equipment, keeping the department clean, and ensuring company health, safety, and sanitation procedures are followed.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience.
Proven leadership experience.
Dependable and reliable; able to perform other related duties as assigned.
Outgoing and friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and ability to interact with customers.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Good communication skills and ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Adhere to safety, health, Weights and Measures regulations, and company recipes.
Able to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walk up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Good vision required for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Able to lift or carry products weighing 25 to 90 lbs. between heights of 4 and 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 85 lbs. of force, up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
Able to move product racks weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring up to 25 lbs. of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
Able to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring more than 35 lbs. of force, up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

2–3 years of grocery retail experience in Meat department processes and procedures.

Responsibilities

Provide excellent customer service while helping customers make healthy food choices.
Assist the Meat & Seafood Manager with managing and merchandising the department for productivity and profit.
Manage ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Meat & Seafood team.
Coordinate production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork.
Help lead the team in delivering high-quality products, service, and customer experiences.
Assist with hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Meat & Seafood team.
Monitor weekly ad items and assist with inventory and ordering.
Follow department receiving, stocking, and unloading practices to maintain freshness and quality, including the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Unload and sort store deliveries and operate and maintain meat and seafood equipment.
Ensure company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines are followed and confirm team members follow them.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department and work areas.
