About The Position

The Assistant Meat/Seafood Manager helps customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service while assisting in managing and leading the Meat & Seafood team. The role supports department merchandising and operations to promote productivity and profit, maintain product quality, and deliver a high-quality customer experience in a fast-paced retail environment. The assistant manager helps coordinate production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. They assist with hiring, training, and developing team members; handle ordering and inventory controls; and help ensure that company health, safety, sanitation, and freshness practices are followed. The position also involves unloading and sorting deliveries, operating and maintaining department equipment, and completing housekeeping and sanitation tasks.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience.
Proven leadership experience.

Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and company recipes.
Ability to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift; walk up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Ability to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Ability to lift or carry products weighing 25 to 90 lbs. between 4 and 60 inches in height, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 85 lbs. of force, up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
Ability to move product racks weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring up to 25 lbs. of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
Ability to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring more than 35 lbs. of force, up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Nice To Haves

2–3 years of grocery retail experience in meat department processes and procedures is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Meat & Seafood Manager with managing and merchandising the department for productivity and profit.
Help lead the team and provide excellent customer service.
Manage or assist with ordering, inventory controls, and product quality.
Coordinate production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork.
Assist with hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Meat & Seafood team.
Know weekly ad items and assist with inventory and ordering.
Follow department practices for receiving, stocking, and unloading products to ensure freshness and quality.
Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Unload and sort store deliveries and operate and maintain meat and seafood equipment.
Ensure company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations are followed by the team.
Perform department housekeeping and clean and sanitize work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
