About The Position

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) directly assists the General Manager (GM) in managing and controlling the gym’s day-to-day operations according to established policies, procedures, and business practices. The position reports directly to the gym’s GM and may supervise front desk, customer service, maintenance, and fitness training personnel at the request of the GM or upper management. The AGM is accountable for achieving the gym’s goals and expectations, second only to the GM and upper management. The role is also intended to develop and prepare the employee for potential succession to the GM position.

Requirements

• Ability to learn, perform, and oversee every job function in the gym.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Good understanding of PC business application programs, including Microsoft Office.
• Strong leadership and supervisory qualities.
• Take-charge attitude and willingness to champion change.
• Willingness to pitch in and do whatever is needed, with a drive for results.
• Enjoyment and ease in working with people.

• Prior supervisory experience.
• Gym work experience and a fitness background.

Responsibilities

• Promote Planet Fitness’s philosophy, mission statement, and vision.
• Oversee gym operations according to established policies.
• Complete administrative tasks, forms, reports, and legally required records.
• Supervise staff, schedule coverage, train new employees, and prepare annual employee evaluations.
• Manage member service, greet prospective members, provide club tours, and address member questions and problems.
• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the club and ensure it opens and closes promptly.
• Authorize expenditures and make bank deposits.
• Accept applications, interview candidates, maintain attendance records, and calculate employee hours in coordination with the payroll service.
• Manage marketing efforts, plan and place advertisements, and conduct competitive shopping.
• Pitch in and perform other tasks as needed.
