The Assistant Manager is a development role designed to prepare an individual who is already capable of running shifts for the additional responsibilities of managing an entire store as a Restaurant Manager. The Assistant Manager supports the Restaurant Manager in planning, directing, and controlling store operations, and supervises employees in areas such as inventory merchandising, losses, and work hours. When directed, the Assistant Manager helps with product ordering and sales plans, and learns the basics of profit-and-loss management. The role may also include attending Restaurant Manager meetings and developing recruiting, hiring, and performance-management skills, as well as knowledge needed to support compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. During assigned shifts, the Assistant Manager manages the processes and people needed to deliver a friendly guest experience. They oversee product preparation and service standards, provide leadership and coaching to Crew Members, assign positions, communicate expectations, motivate the team, and give timely feedback. The role requires learning and executing multiple tasks while upholding the restaurant’s operational, safety, cleanliness, food-quality, and service standards.
