About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to achieve store goals. The role requires knowledge of the store’s product areas and departments, adherence to policies, procedures, and visual standards, and a commitment to outstanding customer service and merchandise promotion. The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The Assistant Manager supports asset protection, sales and merchandising plans, personnel recruiting and training, inventory awareness, and the effective operation of all departments. The role also includes providing customer and employee guidance, maintaining service standards, and performing general administrative duties. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for store and departmental responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal controls are accurate and effective and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in Store Manager responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
