About The Position

JC Licht is a full-service paint, hardware, and decorating retailer featuring Benjamin Moore products, with 65 locations across Chicago, Wisconsin, and Indiana. The Assistant Manager in Training supports store management in monitoring store operations and profitability and provides operational support as needed. The role may be based at Northwest Suburbs locations and involves responsibilities across human resources, store operations, financial management, customer service, and account management.

Requirements

• A two- or four-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
• Effective financial planning and management skills.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• At least 2 years of retail experience.
• Ability to work up to 50 hours per week.
• Ability to perform tasks involving bending, lifting, and sitting, and to lift at least 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Retail experience in an industry-related field.
• A background in inside sales.

Responsibilities

• Participate in recruiting, selecting, and hiring store team members.
• Ensure employees understand store products, develop training programs when necessary, and provide excellent customer service.
• Promote a team-oriented work environment through good communication and ensure the store is properly staffed.
• Supervise employees, conduct periodic performance reviews, and administer disciplinary action when necessary in accordance with company policy.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and company policies, including ADA, EEOC, workers’ compensation, wage and hour, and sexual harassment requirements.
• Maintain inventory at appropriate levels, control inventory losses, and control expenses.
• Ensure the store is opened and closed according to company policy and complete paperwork and reports accurately and on time.
• Maintain merchandising standards, including window, sales-floor, and promotional displays.
• Participate in store activities such as unloading trucks, stocking shelves, carrying merchandise for customers, and delivering paint when needed.
• Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, and banking procedures, and resolve problems as needed.
• Use business reports to identify opportunities involving sales, gross margin, and expense control.
• Understand and follow the company’s purchasing policies and procedures.
• Resolve customer issues efficiently and assist customers professionally and promptly in person and by telephone.
• Provide knowledgeable assistance with store products and services, maintain the physical appearance of the store and equipment, and suggest additional merchandise to help customers complete projects.
• Maintain a professional appearance and good attendance, and arrive at work as scheduled.
• Support the development of new accounts and growth of current accounts through targeted sales initiatives.
• Ensure commercial accounts are properly set up and administered, and assist with outside sales calls when necessary.
