About The Position

Marriott Syracuse Downtown is seeking an on-call Assistant Banquet Manager to assist the Banquet Manager in coordinating, supervising, training, and directing banquet personnel. The role helps ensure successful banquet events while maintaining high service standards. It may also perform banquet server duties, including setting up, greeting and serving guests, and breaking down functions.

Requirements

• Strong communication skills and a self-starting personality with an even disposition.
• Comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette.
• Knowledge of appropriate table settings and service ware.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.
• Experience in event management or catering.
• Supervisory experience and ability to motivate a team to stay on task and exceed guest expectations.
• Commitment to teamwork and customer service.
• Understand and believe that every associate is a guest relations ambassador.

Responsibilities

• Review server and houseperson banquet event orders for accuracy.
• Check room setups to ensure banquet event order directions are followed.
• Ensure public areas are neat and clean.
• Contact group representatives and explain how to reach the team during the function.
• Verify staffing levels for the following day's functions and adjust schedules by adding or canceling servers, bartenders, or housepersons.
• Work as a banquet server when needed, including setting up, greeting and serving guests, and breaking down functions.
• Inspect banquet areas after functions to ensure equipment is returned to its proper area and spaces are clean.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
