About The Position

Pan Atlantic Foundation is seeking a community-minded Area Representative based in Valparaiso, Indiana, to help international high school students find welcoming host families, connect with local schools, and become part of their new communities. This opportunity extends throughout Northwest Indiana, including Chesterton, Crown Point, Michigan City, La Porte, and surrounding communities. The role involves introducing local families to the opportunity to host an international exchange student, building relationships with local high schools, helping students experience Northwest Indiana, and serving as a local resource for international students. The position offers flexibility and is a part-time, 1099 independent contractor role.

Requirements

  • Must be able to successfully complete required background screening.
  • Must complete Pan Atlantic Foundation training.
  • Must obtain the required U.S. Department of State certification for the applicable exchange program role.
  • Must be comfortable working independently and managing responsibilities.
  • Must have dependable communication and follow-through.
  • Must be able to meet with students, families, and school contacts locally as needed.
  • Must have reliable transportation for community outreach and student support.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in education, recruiting, coaching, customer service, sales, youth programs, nonprofit work, hospitality, counseling, community organizations, or civic leadership may be helpful.
  • Previous international exchange experience is not required.
  • An established network is helpful, but the willingness to build one is what matters.
  • Candidates based in or near the surrounding target communities are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Sharing hosting opportunities through social media, community connections, and local events.
  • Connecting with families interested in learning about international exchange.
  • Meeting with prospective host families and explaining program expectations.
  • Conducting required host family interviews and helping complete the approval process.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with approved host families.
  • Helping families feel prepared and supported throughout the exchange experience.
  • Connecting with high school principals, counselors, administrators, coaches, and other school personnel.
  • Introducing international exchange opportunities to local schools.
  • Identifying schools willing to consider exchange student placements.
  • Helping coordinate school approval and enrollment.
  • Maintaining relationships with schools throughout your territory.
  • Exploring opportunities for students to participate in sports, clubs, school events, and extracurricular activities.
  • Welcoming students and helping them get connected to their new community.
  • Maintaining regular communication with students and host families.
  • Completing required supervision visits and check-ins.
  • Encouraging students to participate in school and community activities.
  • Helping students and host families work through everyday questions or concerns.
  • Communicating significant concerns to Pan Atlantic Foundation staff.
  • Helping ensure students feel supported, safe, and included throughout their exchange.
