About The Position

The Alterations Associate (Tailor) conducts alterations, resizing, and restyling of merchandise retailed in Neiman Marcus stores. The role assists fitters with professional guidance on fit, alterability, and the structural quality of apparel. The associate alters constructed garments to meet or exceed the quality of the original construction, performs a range of garment adjustments, operates and maintains sewing equipment, and inspects completed work to ensure quality standards. Other tasks are assigned by a Manager, Supervisor, or Lead.

Requirements

• Ability to read English and understand instructions from a Manager, Supervisor, or Lead.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment, with exposure to a variety of garment styles and fabric types, is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Alter constructed garments to meet or exceed the quality of the original construction.
• Perform garment alterations such as adjusting seams, taking in shoulder blades, reducing the chest, narrowing shoulders, rotating or shortening sleeves, shortening the back or collar, squaring shoulders, shortening or relining coats, and remaking inside or outside pockets.
• Assist fitters with professional guidance on fit, alterability, and structural quality of apparel merchandise.
• Operate and maintain all sewing equipment.
• Self-inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
• Complete alteration tasks assigned by the Supervisor or Lead, and other tasks assigned by a Manager, Supervisor, or Lead.
• Interpret written and oral instructions.
