About The Position
The Alterations Associate (Tailor) conducts alterations, resizing, and restyling of merchandise retailed in Neiman Marcus stores. The role assists fitters with fit, alterability, and structural quality of apparel, and ensures altered garments meet or exceed the quality of their original construction. The associate operates and maintains sewing equipment, inspects completed work, and completes tasks assigned by a manager, supervisor, or lead.
Requirements
- Ability to read English and understand instructions from a manager, supervisor, or lead.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment, with exposure to a variety of garment styles and fabric types.
Responsibilities
- Alter constructed garments to meet or exceed Neiman Marcus quality standards and the quality of their original construction.
- Alter garment seams, including vented or unvented seams; take in shoulder blades; reduce the chest; and narrow shoulders.
- Rotate sleeves and shorten sleeves.
- Shorten the back or collar and square shoulders.
- Shorten coats, re-line coats, or remake inside or outside pockets.
- Operate and maintain sewing equipment.
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
- Complete assigned alterations and other tasks as directed by a manager, supervisor, or lead.
- Interpret written and oral instructions.
