About The Position

As a Tailor, the Alterations Associate conducts alterations, resizing, and restyling of merchandise sold in Neiman Marcus stores. The role assists fitters with professional guidance on fit, alterability, and the structural quality of apparel. The associate alters garments to meet or exceed Neiman Marcus quality standards, operates and maintains sewing equipment, inspects completed work, and completes tasks assigned by a manager, supervisor, or lead.

Requirements

• Ability to read English and understand instructions from a manager, supervisor, or lead.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment, with exposure to a variety of garment styles and fabric types, is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Alter constructed garments to meet or exceed the quality of the original construction.
• Perform garment alterations such as adjusting seams, taking in shoulder blades, reducing the chest, narrowing shoulders, rotating or shortening sleeves, shortening the back or collar, and squaring shoulders.
• Shorten or re-line coats and remake inside or outside pockets.
• Operate and maintain sewing equipment.
• Self-inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
• Complete alterations and other tasks assigned by a supervisor, lead, or manager.
• Interpret instructions provided in written and oral form.
