About The Position
The Alterations Associate conducts alterations, resizing, and restyling of merchandise retailed in Neiman Marcus stores. The role supports fitters with professional assistance regarding fit, alterability, and the structural quality of apparel merchandise. The associate alters garments to meet or exceed Neiman Marcus quality standards, operates and maintains sewing equipment, and checks completed work to ensure it meets quality requirements. They complete tasks assigned by a manager, supervisor, or lead and interpret written and oral instructions.
Requirements
- Ability to read English and understand instructions from a manager, supervisor, or lead.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment, with exposure to a variety of garment styles and fabric types, is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Alter constructed garments to meet Neiman Marcus quality standards equal to or better than the original construction.
- Perform garment alterations such as adjusting seams, taking in shoulder blades, reducing the chest, narrowing shoulders, rotating or shortening sleeves, shortening the back or collar, and squaring shoulders.
- Shorten coats, re-line coats, and remake inside or outside pockets.
- Operate and maintain sewing equipment.
- Self-inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
- Complete alteration tasks assigned by a supervisor or lead.
- Interpret instructions provided in written and oral form and complete tasks assigned by a manager, supervisor, or lead.
- Assist fitters with fit, alterability, and structural quality of apparel merchandise.
