About The Position

As a Tailor, the Alterations Associate conducts alterations, resizing, and restyling of merchandise retailed in Neiman Marcus stores. The role assists fitters with professional guidance on garment fit, alterability, and structural quality. Alterations must meet Neiman Marcus quality standards, equal to or better than the original construction. The associate operates and maintains sewing equipment, inspects completed work, and completes assignments from a Manager, Supervisor, or Lead.

Requirements

Ability to read English and understand instructions from a Manager, Supervisor, or Lead.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment, with exposure to a variety of garment styles and fabric types, is preferred.

Responsibilities

Alter constructed garments to Neiman Marcus quality standards, equal to or better than the original construction.
Perform alterations such as adjusting vented or unvented seams, taking in shoulder blades, reducing the chest, and narrowing shoulders.
Rotate or shorten sleeves; shorten the back or collar; and square shoulders.
Shorten or re-line coats and remake inside or outside pockets.
Operate and maintain sewing equipment.
Self-inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
Complete alterations and other tasks assigned by a Manager, Supervisor, or Lead.
Interpret instructions provided in written and oral form.
