About The Position

This position involves teaching two adjunct English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, ESL 2181 A00 (Receptive Skills) and ESL 3181 A00 (Productive Skills), associated with a 3-unit discipline-specific course, ADM 1300. The ADM 1300 course is taken in English by non-native English speakers. While examination questions in ADM 1300 can be answered in English or French, all tests and assignments in the language classes must be completed in English. ESL 2181 focuses on developing listening and reading comprehension skills, while ESL 3181 emphasizes improving written and oral communication proficiency and confidence. The selected professor is required to attend the ADM 1300 D00 discipline-specific course sessions.

Requirements

Master’s degree in teaching English as a second language, or a discipline relevant to English as a second language teaching.
Two years of experience teaching ESL at the university level, or equivalent.
Familiarity with software and technologies relevant to teaching English as a second language.
Knowledge of immersion pedagogy demonstrated by the resume.
A professor who has taught an FLS / ESL course at OLBI before January 1, 2018 is considered to meet the diploma requirement.
Required attendance for ADM 1300 D00 course.

Responsibilities

Teach ESL 2181 A00 (Receptive Skills) and ESL 3181 A00 (Productive Skills).
Develop comprehension skills (listening and reading) in ESL 2181.
Develop proficiency and confidence in written and oral communication skills in ESL 3181.
Attend the ADM 1300 D00 discipline-specific course sessions.
Ensure all tests and assignments in the language classes are done in English.
