About The Position

This position is for an Adjunct English as a Second Language (ESL) course associated with a 3-unit discipline-specific course (ECO 1104), intended for non-native English speakers. The course focuses on developing comprehension skills (listening and reading) while students acquire knowledge in the discipline. While answers in the discipline-specific course can be in English or French, all tests and assignments in the language class must be in English. The ESL Professor is required to attend the discipline-specific course, ECO 1104 B00, which meets in person on Tuesdays from 8:30 am to 9:50 am and Fridays from 10:00 am to 11:20 am. Students may be enrolled in various sections of ECO 1104 (B00, C00, D00, E00, or F00). This posting is limited to Regular Part-Time Professors.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in teaching English as a second language, or a discipline relevant to English as a second language teaching.
  • Two years of experience teaching ESL at the university level, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with software and technologies relevant to teaching English as a second language.
  • Knowledge of immersion pedagogy demonstrated by the resume.
  • A professor who has taught an FLS / ESL course at OLBI before January 1, 2018 is considered to meet the diploma requirement.
  • Required attendance for ECO 1104 B00 course (Tuesday 8:30am-9:50am and Friday 10:00am-11:20am - in person).

Responsibilities

  • Teach an adjunct English as a Second Language course focusing on receptive skills (listening and reading).

  • Ensure all tests and assignments in the language class are completed in English.
  • Attend the discipline-specific course (ECO 1104 B00) in person.
  • Potentially answer examination questions in the discipline-specific course in either English or French.
  • Complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
